BIGGER POLICE FORCE

CENTENNIAL WORK The question of increasing the police force in Wellington for the New Zealand centennial celebrations is understood to. be receiving the attention of the Commissioner of Police Mr. D. J. Cummings, who is attending the police commissioners’ conference in Brisbane. Upon his return in three weeks, Mr. Cummings probably will be in a position to say by what number the force will be increased, 'and arrangements will be made accordingly.

Information from official quarters is that it will not be necessary to bring new men into the force; the procedure that will probably be followed will be to draw on the force from other districts, and thus cope with the additional work placed on the shoulders! of Wellington policemen.
