HIGH DEFEATS SACRED HEART
One-Point Margin After Great Game
OTHER GAMES OVERSHADOWED
Marist aid H. 5.0.8. Score in Seniors
ALL other district Rugby fixtures were completely overshadowed by Saturday’s match between Gisborne High School and Sacred Heart College, Auckland, won by Gisborne High by a margin of one point.
The winners deserved their success, but late in the game it looked as though they would go down. A great solo try by Kane, an outstanding back in tire Gisborne team, restored their lead, and they-won 9—B.
Sacred Heart had nursed an unbroken record of successes this season until their meeting with the Gisborne team, and had figured as the winners of the secondary schools’ competition under the Auckland Rugby Union. These facts give additional credit to the exploit of Saturday's winners.
Senior games held little interest for either players or spectators, in face of the outstanding attraction on the grandstand ground. A penalty goal by M. O’Brien again won a match for Marist, against Celtic, and H. 5.0.8. had an easy win against a depleted Old Boys' team. Scores in all matches were as under:— SENIORS COLLEGIATE Marist G, Celtic 5. Gisborne High 9, Sacred Heart 8 H. 5.0.8. 12, Old Boys 0. THIRDS JUNIORS Marist 29, Celtic 3. Marist 15, H. 5.0.8. 8. Old Boys G, H. 5.0.8. 5. Old Boys B 21, Rovers 6.
