ASHBURTON VICTORIOUS
MANAWATU DEFEATED HOME BACKS IN FORM (Per Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day,' In one of the brightest games seen here for some time, Ashburton, though lacking five star players engaged in the South Island minor unions’ team, beat Manawatu by 19 points to eight. It was soon evident that the home team was in tip-top form and, despite the heavy ground, the backs made many fast movements while the handling generally was excellent. Manawatu, with a heavier pack, obtained more of -the ball in the first half, but fast-breaking movements by the Ashburton forwards nullified this ldvantage. On several occasions the visitors should have scored, tout the backs were unable to clinch the movements.

Thomas then handed to Finlay, Parris coming round fast to score Manawatu's first ry. Finlay converted. Bright play followed, Ashburton pressing hard 1 until A. Doig pushed himself over, Behrns converting. Manawatu retaliated 1 and l just on halfline: Terry burst through to score.
