HANDICAP TOURNAMENTS WELLS WINS AT PARK INTER-CLUB TO P.B. At all three Gisborne golf clubs over the week-end competition matches were played, with large fields taking part in all matches. A bogey match resulted in a win for G. R." Black (1G) with a card of 3 up, F. Fenwick (3) and C. B. Burland G 8) being second with all square cards. A four-ball bogey match was won by W. D. Barker and H. C. Nolan, these players finishing 5 up on the “Colonel."
Inter-Club Matches
An inter-club match with the Park Club was played over the week-end, Poverty Bay taking the honours.
Next week-end a team of 25 players from the Bay of Plenty will visit Gisborne to play inter-club matches with Poverty Bay. Several of tire visitors will remain in Gisborne for tne annu il amateur championship arid handicap tournament, which opens next Tuesday. Entries ar e coming forward in good style and there will be strong outside representation at the tournament. Last year the championship was won by W. D. Barker, and the Barrington Miller Cup, for the winner of the competition for the second 1G players in the championship qualifying rounds, was won by P. L. Singer. PARK GOLF CLUB In the final of the President's Cup, played at the Park Golf Club between D. A. Wells (12) and L. B. Stuart (13). Wells ran into an early lead, completing the outward half in 40 and maintained his good form, finally winning 3 and 2. The tankard test round was won by S. Rule, 92—23—G9. A. D. Tarr and F. Gavi n finished all square with their opponents, L. Winter and C. E. Mackay, and so retained the Dryland Cup. TURANGANUI CLUB Competition matches played on the Turanganui club's link's on Saturday included the final of the ladies’ handicap, a bogey imudicap for all lady members, the finals of three sections in the men’s handicap competitions, and a bogey handicap played toy male members. Results were as under:— Ladies’ Handicap Competition.— Final: Mrs. P. Kaua beat Miss M. Porter.
Bogey .Handicap.—Mrs. P. Kaua, with a card of all square, had a comfortable win, followed by IMrs. R. Rol’ob, 4 down. Men’s Handicap Competition Finals. -LFirst Section: C. Pere beat P. Kaua, 4 and 2. Third Section: R. Gordon beat J. McConnell, 1 up. Fourth Section: D. Ross beat iR. Jones, 2 up. Bogey Handicap.—This resulted in a winifor'D. B. Tennent (14) with a card of 1 up. Over the week-end a visit was received from a team Of 12 men from the Wairoa Golf Club, when, under ideal conditions, four-ball and singles matches were played and resulted in favour of the home players after closely contested matches. (Mr. T. F. Crawford, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the home team for the hospitality shown, and particularly thanked the ladies for catering for the wants of those playing. TOLAGA BAY CLUB
