BUDGET SPEECHES INDICATION IN HOUSE LITTLE MEW MATERIAL POLICIES ASSAILH'D FINANCE AND FOREIGN (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Urgency was taken for the Budget debate in the House of Representatives yesterday, not with the intention of late sittings, explained the acting Leader of the House, the Hon. P. Fraser, but in order to allow any speech commenced before the ordinary time of the adjournment, 10.30 p.m., to be concluded before the rising of the House.
The indications are for the debate to be brought to a conclusion this week.
The discussion yesterday, generally speaking, was colourless, members evidently having little new material to bring forward.
Mr. F. W. Doidge (Nat., Tauranga) again criticised the Government’s financial policy and concluded by making a plea for tiie man on the land, saying that the Budget’s only thought for the farmer was that lie should work hard and produce more. Mr. R. McKeen (Lab., Wellington South) made his second attack this session on 1 the British foreign policy and' said that Britain had been responsible for some double crossing in regard to the Far East position. Mr. W. S. Goosman (Nat., Waikato) made a strong attack on the lavish distribution of the unemployment funds, suggesting that many relief works were the excuse for the payment of wages. The debate is being continued today. (
