CHILDREN'S TREAT
GISBORNE SCHOOL BALL VARIETY OF COSTUMES INTEREST OF PARENTS Many arid varied were the costumes seen at the Gisborne' Central School's annual fancy dress ball, which was held in. the City Hall yesterday afternoon and last evening. The function was a most successful one and was indeed a happy occasion for the children.
Much interest was displayed by parents in the annual treat and it was evident that much care and attention had been given to the preparation of the many fine costumes. The colourful scenes at both afternoon and evening sessions were witnessed by a large number of parents and friends. The work of the ladies’ committee, which had charge of the catering arrangements, was the. subject of special reference by the chairman of the Gisborne Central School Committee, Mr. J. H. Sunderland, in the course of a short speech during the evening. , , . Mr. Sunderland explained that in view of the construction of the Intelmediate School the function would be the last one on such a large scale and the committee desired to mark the occasion by making presentations to Mesdames F. R. Ball and A. Livingston, Who had given their assistance at the annual functions for approximately 18 years. On behalf ol tthe committee, Mr. Sunderland thanked all who had helped to make the ball such a success. An attractive programme of dances were presented by the children undei the direction of Mr. J. E. S'himmm, headmaster, and the members of his staff. At the afternoon session, which w'as 'arranged specially for the younger children, the pupils of the primer classes and Stds. I ana II were represented. The older pupils took part in the evening's entertainment and towards the close a short period of dancing was enjoyed by the adults. . Assistance in organising the function was given by members of the school committee and the music for the evening was provided by Mrs. Thompson’s orchestra. Dancers and Their Frocks
