Dancing Academy- Awards In connection with the recent examinations of the Royal Academy of Dancing, the Herald has been asked to state that Miss Tua Smith, who with Misses Isobel Sharpies and Lorna Sheen passed the elementary examination for academy membership, is a former pupil of Miss Constance Macdonald, Napier. Miss Sheen, the youngest candidate to pass this examination in Gisborne, also gained honours in Grade V.

Competition Judges’ Aid Ready assent to a request from the Diggers’ Choir has been given by Messrs. Errol H. Muir and Lon Varnes, judges of elocution and music respectively for the Gisborne Competitions Festival next week, who will assist the choir in the presentation of a concert on Sunday, August 27, in aid of the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s hospital comforts fund. The Diggers’ Choir will be assisted also -by the Gisborne Choral Society, and other guest artists.

Dairy Company Weddings ■Within a few weeks, three members of the Okitu Co-operative Dairy Company's staff will have been married. ,It was reported at tho annual meeting of shareholders yesterday that cue wedding had taken place already, that of Mr. E. Williamson, an employee in the factory, while Mr. D. Moran, the first 'assistant in the factory, would be marrying Miss D. King, a member of the office staff, shortly. A farewell presentation was made to Miss King on Saturday from the staff and directors.

Ileer Prices in Gisborne No increase in the retail cost of beer has been decided on by Gisborne .hotelkeepers as yet, though a meeting will be held this week to decide on (measures 'to meet flic recent Increase in wholesale prices, due to the rise in excise duty. In the cities, retailers are planning to reduce the size of “handles,” to cover their increased costs for draught beer, and have added Id per bottle to the price of bottled beer. It is thought probable that similar action will be taken in Gisborne. Sales of bottled beer by merchants will carry an additional impost of Is 3d per dozen quarts, according to a decision already reached by the associated merchants'.
