The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs gives the financial details of nine art unions for £SOOO prizes during the past year. The gross sales in tickets realised £182,109. commission cost £27,316, expenses were £26.356 and prizes absorbed £45,000, leaving th e net proceeds at £83,427, on which lottery duty of £18,210 was charged. The net profit was £65,216, Of which £45,000 was distributed to various mayoral and other recognised central, funds established in the relief of distress, making a total of £325,000 made available from this purpose during recent years. The balance was allocated to charitable and philantropic organisations, including children's home and Orphanages.
