Nearly 750,000 cigarettes, which did not comply with the import regulations, were burned on the premises of a Dunedin firm last week under the supervision of the Customs Department. They had been ordered prior to the restrictions and after their arrival, it was found there was no ready sale Tor them, and so the importers decided that destruction would be the best step in the circumstances. Together with the ‘Christchurch blaze, this makes well over 3,000,000 cigarettes which have been destroyed in’New Zealand during the past few days.
