DEAF MUTE’S “IDEAL JOB"
\ PNEUMATIC DRILLER
LONDON, July 4
Samuel Thomas Davis, a 27-year-okl deaf mute, was stated by counsel at Somerset quarter sessions, Taunton/to be in a job “for which Nature seemed to have fitted him.” He was discharged after pleading not guilty to housebreaking and stealing 14s and two packets of cigarettes. . Counsel for the defence said that the court might be interested to know that until recently Davis’ affliction debarred him from following a regular occupation. Now, fortunately, he had a good job at a good wage, for which Nature seemed to have fitted him. “He works one of those appallingly noisy, pneumatic drills on the roads,” said counsel. “I think he must be the most contented workman in England, because he does not hear the noise.”
