WARNING TO CHAMBERLAIN

RETALIATORY EXPULSIONS

(Eloc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Aug.: 15, 10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 14.

Scotland Yard to-day frustrated an Irish Republican Army plot to effect a rescue at Chelmsford gaol, : after it had received warnings from an exconvict of -an attempt to help- the Irish Republican: Army leader to escape.

A Dublin message states that Thomas Powell, a barrister, standing in a cart accompanied by five suspected supporters of the Irish Republican Army who were deported from England, addressed a large crowd, warning Britain to halt deporting Irishmen. < “If she does not, we will retaliate and expel Englishmen from Eire,” he said. “The campaign in England will be intensified. If Mr. Chamberlain wants it to finish,- he must negotiate with .‘General’ Russell, not with Mr. de Valera.”

Police in Dublin raided the dwellings of members of the' Irish Republican Army and; seized allegedly seditious documents.
