STILL HELD PRISONER
BRITISH OFFICER
LONG DELAY IN TRIAL
(Reed. Aug. 15, 10 aim.) LONDON, July 14,
A report from Pekin states that the Japanese decline to explain the delay or to indicate the date of the trial of the British military attache, Lieutenant Colonel Sppars, who is held in a private room by gendarmery. It is stated that he has regularly received letters from newspapers.
A Shanghai message states that Mr. Gerald Parker, the military language officer at Toldo is visiting Lieut. Colonel Spears to ascertain the conditions of his confinement. The British Embassy doctor at Pekin says that Lieutenant Colonel Spears complained in his last letter that he was suffering from fever and denied official Japanese reports that he was in good health.
