DIVE-BOMBER FOR R.A.F

SKUA’S PERFORMANCE

LONDON, Aug. 3

Among Britain’s remarkable new service aircraft is the Blackburn Skua fighter-dive-bomber. It is an amphibian with a 905 h.p. Bristol-Perseus sleeve-valve engine and a new system of folding wings. It weighs four tons, has a lop speed of 241 miles an hour, and a cruising speed of 200 miles an hour. Its ceiling exceeds 20,000 ft., and its range 900 miles.

11 is armed with several machineguns, geared for concentrated fire, and has a power-operated gun turret amidships. The bombs are held in a streamlined recess under the fuselage. The machine, when attacking, dives vertically, and releases the bomb at a low altitude to ensure accuracy.
