‘HANDLES’ TO BE SMALLER

AUCKLAND INCREASES

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this-day. Increases in the price of beer were made effective yesterday, resulting from the Gd. a gallon which was added on to the excise duty under the recent Budgetary provisions. They so far apply mainly to the bottled product, although measures are being taken to reduce the size of glasses and “handles.” Following the decision made last week toy a meeting of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association, local brands of bottled beer sold in pint .bottles now cost Dd. instead of the former Bd., and southern brands have risen from 9d. to lCd. Beer bought in bulk has been increased by Gd. to ss. a gallon.
