OBITUARY

MR. JOHN BEN KING TE ICAR AKA RESIDENT The death occurred in the Cook Hospital yesterday of Mr. John Ben King, Te Karaka, at the age of 71 years. The late Mr. King, who had resided latterly with his brother, Mr. R. M. King, had been in ill health for a long period. Born in Wellington, the deceased was a son of the late Mr. J. L. King, a civil engineer. He carried out extensive survey work in the Forty-Mile Bush, and also farmed there for a number of years. Mr. King had spent the past 34 years in the Opotiki and Gisborne districts, farming a property near Opotiki for a time, before taking over a Wharerata station. , For the last two years ne had resided in Te Karaka.

Mr. King was married in Pahiatua to Miss Bessie Harriet Rait, and while in that district he took a keen interest in the Mounted Rifles. Besides his widow, the deceased leaves two sons, Mr. R. H. King, Raukokore, Mr. R. W. Kang, Matata, and one daughter, Mrs. J. Broughton, Pahiatua.

The interment took place this afternoon at the Taruheru cemetery.

MR. ANGUS H. NICHOLSON RETURNED SOLDIER A returned soldier, who served on Gallipoli and in France, Mr. Angus H. Nicholson, died in Wellington las* Thursday. Mr. Nicholson had sffent the greater portion of his life in the Gisborne district, and was a son of Mrs. Jane Nicholson, and the late Mr. Norman Nicholson, Gisborne. ’'He left New Zealand with the Sixth Reinforcements and was wounded while on active service. Following hjs return to New Zealand, Mr. Nicholson suffered much from ill health, but, despite his suffering, he maintained a cheery disposition and was popular with ex-servicemen.
