Buffet Dinner Party
As a prelude to the Hospital Bail on Friday night, Miss Lois Nalder entertained a number of friends at a jolly buffet dinner party at ner home in Palmerston road.
The folding doors between the draw-ing-room and dining-room were lirown open and bo f h rooms were gay with shaded Iceland .poppies and narcissi, intermingled with wondcrl'ullytinted foliage, the colour scheme being repeated in the decoration of the dinner table. Mrs. Nalder welcomed her daughter’s guests wearing an elegant frock af .black panne velvet accented with a jade green corsage posy.
Miss Nalder looked smart in a frock of rose taffetas ornamented with a shoulder spray of poppies in contrast.ng shades of pink. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bettelheim; Misses M. On Saturday afternoon Mrs. H. R. Kendon invited several friends to a tel gn.ful tea party at her home in Whitaker street, to 'farewell Mrs. M. Aldred prior to her departure for Auckland.
Decorations of shaded Iceland poppies gave a festive air to the draw-ing-room, and a bright lire radiated jomfort.
Community singing was enjoyed and Miss Ray was heard to advantage in a vocal solo, the accompaniments being played by Mrs. F. Wickens and Mrs. W. Camithers.
A delicious afternoon tea was served nformaily. The hostess was wearing an elegant frock of navy blue wool-de-chine cut on simple lines.
The guest of honour was smartly frocked in a London tan ensemble, worn with a hat of matching felt, and her mother, Mrs. Dailey, wore a becoming frock of wine-coloured deque with a hat to tone, and a fur coat.

otalf Farewell at Oil Well On 'Saturday night. Mr. G. J. Baker, who is returning to America shortly, was farewelled in a delightful manner by his fellow-members of the staff of the New Zealand Petroleum Con?lonny. Limited, at the Totangi Dome, in Ngatapa. The function took the form of a dinner party and dance, at which good Wishes for his future success and happiness were extended to the guest of honour, who was asked to accept a handsome travelling rug as a tangible tribute to the esteem of the stall'. Suitable acknowledgment of the gift and good wishes was made toy Mr. Baker. Dinner was served at a flowerdecked table in the camp dining-hall. The distinctive table decorations, and also the effective arrangement of greenery in the social hall, were the artistic work of Mr. W. D. Cool:, “Eastwoodhill.”
Music for dancing was supplied by Messrs. Baty Bros.' orchestra, and the programme went with a swing. Among those present at the dance were Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Dykes, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Pianoforte Recital
In her choice of numbers for the annual pianoforte recital given by her pupils at her studio on Saturday afternoon, Miss I. Robeson Hunt, L.R.S.M., paid a high compliment to the musical taste of her guests. Decorations of rhododendrons, violets and jonquils created a happy, festive atmosphere.
The delightfully varied programme served to show the .scope of the tuition, and each well-rendered item was greeted with encouraging approval. At the close of the recital, Miss Hunt, who was tendered many congratulations, gave a brilliant interpretation of “Warum?” (Schumann).
Mrs. Hunt, who acted as hostess for her daughter, was assisted in the serving of afternoon tea by Mrs. "G. R. Olsen.
Mrs. Hunt was wearing a graceful frock of Air Force blue jersey cloth with a felt hat to match, and Miss Hunt had chosen an ox blood red and ■..'•lack checked tailored suit and 'a wide-brimmed hat of red felt.
