TEAM CONGRATULATED
SCHOOLS’ TOURNAMENT i MEETING OF UNION The principal questions discussed by members of the Poverty Bay Rugoy Union last evening arose out of the match with Auckland last Saturday. There were present the chairman, Mr. G. 11. Sceats, and the following delegates;—Bro. Denis, Messrs. K. F. Jones, T. French, E. T. Brosnahan, P. C. Edmundson, G. J. Jeune, W. H. James, J. E. Mercer, and W. S. McKee, hon. secretary. Congra’ulations to the Poverty Bay players who have been included in the North Island Minor Unions’ fifteen were expressed by the chairman. The secretary reported that he was communicating with the players regarding the necessary leave to travel to Christchurch for the match with the Soihh Island fifteen. By unanimous vote the union decided to play the Sacred Heart College v. Gisborne High School match on No. 1 ground at the Oval at 2.45 p.m. on Saturday. The draw for Saturday was announced as follows: College Game Sacred Heart College v. High School, Oval No. 1, 2.45 p.m. Seniors Celtic v. Marist, Oval No. 2. 2.45 p.m.; H. 5.0.8. v. Old Boys, Oval No. 3. 2.45 p.m. Juniors Marist v H. 5.0.8., Oval No. 1, 1.15 p.m.: Old Boys B v. Rovers, Oval No. 2, 1.15 p.m. Third Grade Celtic v. Marist, Oval No. 3, 1.15 p.m.: H. 5.0.8. v. Old Boys, High School No. 1, 1.15 p.m. . Fourth Grade Old Boys v. High School, High School No. 2. 1.15 p.m.- Marist v. Celtic (friendly game), High School No. 3, 1.15 p.m. Friendly Game Combined Churches v Salvation Army,dHigh School No. 1. 3 p.m. Permission was granted for the use of a ground for a game to be played at 3 p.m. on Saturday between teams representing the Salvation Army and the combined churches. The game will be played on the High School ground. The chairman complimented (lie home team on its success against Auckland, saying that the tide had apparently turned and the Bay could look forward with, confidence to future engagements.
Mr. James was thanked for his services as manager of the team. It was decided to Blank the Auckland union for sending the team to Gisborne and also to express the thanks of the union to the Auckland team.
Tile chairman said that the financial side of the primary schools’ tournament at Gisborne was still being arranged, and a fur + her report on the subject would be made to the next meeting of the union. It was reported that 19 caps had been donated to the recenßyannounced Poverty Bay primary school representatives, and these are to be presented at the Ooval at the interval of the main game on Saturday
