“On account of several snowstorms, I ha ve not been able to Inspect any of the back country this month,” stated a report on the Wairoa district submitted by Mr. T. R, England, sublifspector, to last evening's meeting of the East Coast Rabbit Board. Those present at the meeting were Messrs C. O. Holdsworth. eliairnian, E. M. Monckton, M. L. Holden, and j.', R. Bould, of the Department of Agriculture. Payments amounting to .CRB7 were confirmed. "A rabbit was reported to have been seen on the road near Mr. Tietjen’s place on Wharerata Mill. I searched the country on both sides of the road and all likely places for two or three milef.', but could find no indication of rabbits,” reported Mr. England. ‘■'f looked over parts of the Mohaka Crown and native lands, around the Mohaka pa and river faces, and found the country clean. On the WaihiTapui boundary and on the Waikaremoana native lands I could find nothing."
Tn a summary of places that bad been worked during the month, Mr. England stated that VValhua, Hurimoa, Awamato stations, Messrs J. McKinnon, and McKinnon Brothers' property, and /Waihua native lands carried no signs. On Woodlands station (Messrs Mossrnan Bros.) one rabbit was caught, but after that no further signs were found. Nothing was found on the Putcre Crown lands, nor on the parts of the Mohaka native land that was covered. A rabbit, was caught on Tapui station, Hut the properties of Messrs Knowles, Boyle, Ebbett, atul Buttrick (parts of the Ohuka settlement) were found clean. There were no traces on the land of Messrs S. Mitchell, Christie, Hemming, Gamble or Richardson Brothers, or on Wahanui station. An additional rabbit was killed on I’ilianui station. The total kills for the month were: Woodlands, 1: Pihnnui, I; Tapui, 1; total, 3, Northern District. “The following country has been worked during the past month in the
northern district,” reported Mr, H. A Burgess, Inspector, Whakatane:
* "Ngahuinga, Te Ngira and Heruiwi country, which carried no signs of rabbits; the land adjoining the Thornton sandhills, where a rabbit was killed, hut no further traces could be found;’Te Telco block, where several rabbits were caught; the country around Whakatane, where two rabbits were caught; Kopuriki, To ITouhi and Galatea, estate, where rabbits were caught.
"During the past month I have inspected the sandhills, Thornton, Ohiwa, and the surrounding country and could find no fresh indications. On inspecting l the land of Messrs. Kondell Smith, and the adjoining properties I found signs on Mr. Kendell's land near the Whakatane River at Paliou, and one rabbit was caught. Since then there have been no fresh signs.
“One rabbit was caught on Mr. Mcßonnon's property, following a report of one having been seen there, but afterwards there were no further indications. Concerning the indications of rabbits on Te Toko block mentioned in my last report, four rabbits were caught there arid a nest was found as well. 'There is an odd sign still near the Rangitaiki River.
“On looking over Kopuriki estate T found an odd sign, also near the Horomanga River, Galatea, and irehind the homestead, Galatea. The area is being attended to. The gate on the Kopuriki bridge was broken again by a vehicle and the work of repairing it is in hand. "Rabbits killed during the month totalled 10, as follows: McLennon’s, Otariri, 1; Kendall's, Paliou, I: McDonald's, Te Toko, i; Omalora, 3 and a nest of -I; KopmTki, I; Galatea, 3 and a nest of 4,”
