APPRECIATION VOICED

Donations totalling over £I2OO have been received by the East Coast Centennial Council as gifts towards the centennial fund.

The ready response to the appeal for financial support is a matter for keen gratification on the part of members of the council and every confidence is expressed in the ability of the district to raise a sum which will compare favourably with the financial efforts made in other centres.

All money collected for centennial purposes carries a £1 for £ll Government subsidy. A notable feature of the list of donations received is a gift of £ls 2s fid made by men working on the No. 11l scheme at Waikanae Park. The action of these men in making this donation is worthy of commendation and was the subject of eulogistic reference at the meeting of the council held yesterday afternoon.

It also will be seen that the Chinese community is not lacking in its generosity towards the fund. Donations to date are acknowledged as follows:
