SPORTING OFFICIAL MR. C. CHURCH HONOURED Tributes to his work in sporting ’circles were paid to Mr. Clifford ■Church at informal functions held on •Thursday and Friday evenings. Mr. Church, who has- a life-long association with several sports in Gisborne, left this morning for Wellington, where he is to enter business on his own account. On Thursday evening fellowmennbers ol' the Poverty Bay Professional Athletic Centre met to farewell Mr. Church who has been delegate toi the New Zealand centre for several years. On behalf of the centre the chairman, Mr. Leo. Davy, referred to Mr. Church’s services in the interests of professional sport and ’presented the departing officer with a suitably inscribed wristlet watch. Mr. Church, in a brief response, mentioned 1 the pleasure which his work as a centre officer had afforded him Wrestlers’ Tribute At a function last evening sponsored by the Gisborne Wrestling Association, Mr. A. Bice, on behalf of the association, presented Mr. Church with a fountain pen as a mark of appreciation of the' guest of honour's services to wrestling. Mr. Rice pointed but that Mr. Church had been an official second, to the association since its inception and, on behalf of ’all wrestling authorities and followers of the sport, he wished Mr. Church every success in his new sphere.

Mr. Church' fn his reply, referred to the value of wrestling as a means towards acquiring a sound physique and pointed 1 out that his association with the sport in Gisborne always had been happy.
