Hamper for Porirua
'Sir,—>On Wednesday, August 16, the members of the Women’s National Reserve will make their annual appeal for gifts for Ihe women and children inmates of the mental hospital at Porirua. The unpacking of the hamper gives great pleasure to the patients, and in the past the Gisborne hamper has been of a very high standard, and we feel sure the present one will be no exception. We have already had promises and donations, and feel sure the cause will be generously supported by the public. The. following are among some of the most acceptable goods: Biscuits, calces, sweets, tinned fruit and jam, picture books, fancy goods, toys, games, fashion books and patterns, pieces of cretonne, apples, lemons, embroidery silks, fancy dresses, etc. Anyone wishing to send a parcel to a friend may do so by addressing it, and it will be enclosed with the others. The committee feels sure of a ready re-
sponse by the public to the appeal, as these gifts will help to brighten the lives of those who are confined to years of loneliness. Members will be at tbc shop known as the Vogue Salon, just below the Herald office, from 9 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Friends are asked to leave their gifts as early as possible, as they are packed and sent away the same clay. In the past parcels have been sent too late, and expense has been entailed in .forwarding them. The hamper lias always been carried free. 11. C. GOFF'E, President W.N.'R.
