PRICE-GUARANTEE PLAN
STABILISING INDUSTRY BUTTER FAT AND STOCK (Farliainentnry Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Silence of the Opposition speakers on the guaranteed .price was commented on by Mr. E. L. Cullen (Lab., Hawke’s Bay) during his financial debate speech in the House of Representatives. He said he could not understand why the member for Stratford, Mr. V/. J. Poison, could be so quiet after all he had said about the compensated price. Mr. Cullen said that the guaranteed price had materially helped dairy farmers in the returns for butterfat and the returns for surplus stock. Throughout the Dominion it had been found that, the prices of all classes of their stock had been stabilised. No dealer could, as in the past, buy at a low price in one district and re-sell in another at an uneconomic price, for the guaranteed system' had given stability in the industry. The Opposition had talked about the Labour Left Wing, but he suggested that the Farmers’ Union was the Nationalist Left Wing, which forced members on the Opposition benches to put forward farmers’ proposals, 'hough it was only soft soap. "The Government has a Left Wing,” he concluded, “and the National Party har one too, which is using it well.”
