BOMBERS FOR AIR MAILS
MINISTRY CONSIDERING BERLIN PRESS ECHO (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Pross Assn.) (Reed. Aug. 'll, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 9. The Air Ministry declares that it is anxious to help Imperial Airways, but the question of using Royal Air Force bombers for .the transport of mails cannot be decided in a minute. The Ministry is considering the matter and a. statement will be issued in- due course. • . , Sir John. Reith, interviewed by the News-Chronicle said: “I want Imperial Airways to carry on the Empire passenger services, even if they have to buy foreign planes. If I had my way they would still be operating, but there is official opposition to the purchase of foreign aircraft. A message from Berlin states that the German press gives prominence to the request by Imperial Airways. The German -press- declares that Germany not only produces civil aeroplanes for her own services in the midst of the rearmament work, but exports them to Holland, Japan, Denmark, Finland and South America.
