THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast General Situation: An extensive and complex depression covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand, but pressure is commencing to rise over south-eastern Australia. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong north-westerlies to westerlies north of Nelson and Marlborough, variable thence southward but with moderate easterlies to southerlies predominating. Seas: In New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough north of Westport and about Cook Strait; slight 1o moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasmai Sea: Fresh westerly winds in the central, and northern portions, moderate south-easterlies in the southern portion, and southerlies later becoming more general. Seas: Moderate to rather rough. Weather: Dull and misty in eastern districts south of Banks Peninsula, with drizzling rain; elsewhere unsettled with occasional rain; conditions better, however, in the Auckland and Hawke's Bay provinces, and improving later also in Westland. Temperatures: Mild in the north, becoming cooler in the south. To-Day's North Island Report A dec ted fall in barometric pressures occurred all over tile North Island this morning, but temperatures remained fairly high, with 60 degrees at. Gisborne. 58 degrees at Cape Maria Van Diemen and East Cape. 5G al Opotiki, and other stations ranging down to 54 at Napier, and 50 at Wellington. Northerly winds predominated, with a tendency to westerlies, and of moderate strength. Gisborne was flic only station which reported blue skies overhead, overcast conditions being general elsewhere. Visibility was bad at Tiritiri, owing tr fog. and poor at. AuekhrM. out elsewhere good +o excellent. Rough sea" were reported from Cape Maria and Fast Cape; smooth to moderate conditions elsewhere.
