PROSPECTING FOR OIL

SEARCH IN MANAWATU Subject to its being indemnified against any claims for accident, the Kairanga County Council, Palmerston North, has given permission to the Superior Oil Company (New Zealand), Limited, to drill shallow shot-holes along the extreme outer edges of the county’s roads. The holes, it was stated, would be drilled about 1250 ft. apart and would be located as close to the fence line as possible. Attempts would be made in all cases to avoid drains and other improvements along the right of way. Damage to these improvements would be avoided by running the drill truck on planks from the road proper in wet ground to "the extreme edge of the right of way.
