TRAGIC SMASH

YOUNG WOMAN KILLED DRIVER GRAVELY HURT CAR-LORRY COLLISION EARLY MORNING CRASH (Per Press Association.) MASTERTON, this day. A tragic motor smash occurred near Carterton between 1 and 2 o'clock this morning, as a result of which Eleanor Irene Stubbs, second daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. A. F. Stubbs, Carterton, was fatally injured and Warren Burling, aged 18, a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Burling, Akura, was seriously injured.

The sedan car, driven by Mr. Warren Burling, with Miss Stubbs as passenger, was proceeding southward to Cartcrtbn and a lorry owned ' by Mr. Brcnkley, Masterton, who was a passenger in the vehicle and driven by Mr. Ronald was proceeding to Masterton behind another vehicle driven by a Mr. Alexander. It appears that Mr. Burling's car had passed the first motor vehicle when a collision occurred with Mr. Brenkley's lorry. The car appears to have struck the lorry behind the driver's seat. lUiss Stubbs was alive but died on the way to the hospital at Carterlon. Mr. Burling was seriously injured and was removed to the hospital at Carterton.
