Sir George Elliot, formerly chairman of the New Zealand local board of .the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, has been appointed a member of the London board of the company. Mr. D. G. Kennedy, a New Zealander who is administrative officer of the Ellice Islands, is expected to arrive at Auckland from Sydney shortly after spending a year at Oxford University. He is returning to his duties. Captain W. G. Summers, formerly of the Akaroa, is in command of the Shaw, Saviil and Albion liner Dominion Monarch, which left Southampton last Friday for Wellington, via Madeira, South Africa and Australia. Mr. Lance Cross', formerly physical instructor at the Hamilton Young Men's Christian Association, has left for Wellington, where he will take up a position as area officer under the national physical welfare and recreation scheme.
From 16 applicants the Wanganui Education Board! has appointed Mr. J. C. Whibley, 8.A., F.R.H.S., at present headmaster of Taihape District High School, as,the first principal of the Palmerston North Intermediate School, now under construction. Presiding at the annual meeting of the Rata Co-operative Dairy Company, Mr. R. G. Dalzieil completed his twenty-fifth year of service to the company as chairman of directors, and he was re-elected for his twentysixth term. The Rata company was formed in 1902, and has had only three chairmen—Messrs John Marshall, John Hammond, and Dalzieil. On a business visit to the Dominion, Mr. R. J. Richardson, a director of Austral-New Zealand Mining Limited, arrived at Wellington by the Awatea from Sydney. He will visit Central Otago, where the company has recently installed f. new gold-mining dredge. The company is prospecting pnother property on the West Coast.
