FAT LAMB JUDGING
ENGLISH MARKET CLASS HAWKE'S BAY CONCERN A. AND P. DISCUSSION Discrepancies in fat lamb judging of lambs most suitable for the English market when the stock was judged on the hooks both in 'New Zealand and in London were mentioned at the meeting of the Poverty Bay A. and P. Association this morning. The matter arose out of a communication from the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Society, seeking support in a request to be made to the Meat Board. The .HaWke's Bay association pointed out that it had received a letter stating that variations in placings were a matter for serious thought and efforts should be made to get all the information and criticism possible in order to make for uniformity in judging. It was doubtful if people in New Zealand ceallv knew for certain what was the most suitable lamb for the English market when it was found that New Zealand placings were unplaced in London.' Carcases for Exhibition
It was suggested that the Meat 'Board should be asked if it would toe possible to obtain carcases of lamto from London illustrating the requirements of the Home market and to exhibit them at New Zealand Shows as an object lesson for breeders of fat lambs. The Hawke's Bay association said that the improvement of lambs for export was of vital importance, and for this reason the support of other associations in the application to the Meat Board was desired. ■Mr. J. C. Graham spoke in favour of the block test system, as previously outlined in the Herald, and suggested that the attention of the Hawke's Bay association be referred to Dr. Hammond's views on the matter, Mr. Graham claiming that Dr. Hammond was the leading authority on the subject. 'Mr. F. Tolerton suggested that the Hawke's Bay suggestion should toe carried further, in that both the pen of lambs judged first in New Zealand and that judged first in London should be on display. It was decided to offer a recommendation to this effect as a reply to the Hawke's 'Bay association.
