NEW TERRITORIAL UNIT

AUCKLAND RECRUITING FRONTIERSMEN SPONSORS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A new company of territorial infantry is at presenlt being recruited by the Auckland! squadron- of the Legion of Frontiersmen. Not only are members of the legion.acting as recruiting officers, but the squadron has undertaken to keep the company up to strength after recruitment, and gen.er.ally. to sponsor it To form the company, 120 recruits are wanted and enrolment is proceeding satisfactorily. All recruits will be interviewed personally by the officer commanding the legion in Auckland, Caiptain H. S. Parsons. They will be sent on to the Army Department for medical examination and attestation. The reason for the personal interview with the commanding officer of the legion is that every man in the company will become an affiliated memiber of the legion and will be enti led to wear its lapel, badge. Thus, since the badge is jealously guarded by members of the legion throughout the British Empire, care is being taken, in choosing recruits of the best stamp. Special authority to form the company ihais been received by the squadron. It is also intended to share the legion's interests j with the recruits. They will foe allowed the use of the facilities enjoyed by senior members, including the squadron's social hall, billiard room, miniature rifle range and membership of the outdoor rifle club at half the usual subscription, t-hiis amount being sufficient only to cover the squadron's capitation fees to the New Zealand and Empire '■'adquarters. It is also intended that, as members of the company complete their 'erritorial service, they will be entitled to become full members of the legion under its constitution. Interest will be maintained in recruits 1 from the time they apply for enlistment.
