REP. SOCCER MATCH
APPROVAL OF DATE WELLINGTON FIXTURE DRAW FOP SATURDAY Approval of Saturday, September 2, as the date for the ■ representative soccer match between Wellington and Poverty Bay, to be played' on i£he Childers Road Reserve, was given by the Poverty Bay iFooitiballi Association at an executive meeting. There were present the chairman, Mr. R. Waugh, and Messrs. W. Hall, W. Ra tariff e, R. Johnston, R. Bardswell, ;R. Huxtable, .1. Gordon, L. Branson, and .1. Crawford, hon. secretary. The Wellington Football Association wrote suggesting September 2 .as the date for the Hill Shield' match in Gisborne, this dale being approved by the executive. The Poverty Bay team will be selected by Messrs. J. Morton, J. McLean and J. Taylor. Messrs. W. Hall and R. Johnston were appointed to select teams representing Scotland and England, to play in a curtain-raiser to the Wellington game. The secretary, was instructed to complete arrangements for .a "din-" ncr to be held in 'honour of ithe visiting team. Mercantile the Winners The Leaigue competition was declared to be closed with Mercantile Football Club the champion team for the 1939 season. It was decided to play a one-round competition for the J. R. Kirk Cup. The competition will be a points one and 1 will be held over three playing Saturdays. Saturday's Games
The draw for Saturday was made as follows: Seniors. —Mercantile v. Eastern Union, Reserve No. 1, ground, 2.45 p.m., referee Mr. R. Cusack; Thistle v. Territorials, Reserve No. 2, Mr. J. Easton; reserve referees, Messrs. J. Taylor and F. Woods. Schoolboys.—Mangapapa v. Central, Reserve No. 1 ground, 10 ajn.; Te Hapar.a v. Central, Reserve No. 2, 10 a.m.; coaches, .Messrs. W. Hall, W. McKay, R. Bardswell, J. Wilson and D. Elliott. An intermediate game will be played at 1.15 p.m., ithe referee being Mr. R. Huxtable. Championship Points Final points in the League championship series were announced as follows: —
