THE HOMER TUNNEL
WORK A.T STANDSTILL POWER LINES SWEPT AWAY Work at the Homer tunnel has been at a .standstill since July 24, owing to an interruption of the power supply caused by an •avalanche which swept away a length of the power lines between Monkey Plait and the Homer, stated iMr. A. F. Downer, of Messrs. Downer and Company, Limited, engineers in charge of the tunnelling work at the Homer Saddle, in an interview in Dunedin. The repair work is now well in hand and it is expected that within two or three, days tunnelling will be recommenced with the one shift daily. During the interrupted period the stand-by plant has been sufficient to keep the tunnel pumped' out.
The snowfalls had been particularly heavy in the area, said Mr. Downer, but the precautionary measures' taken by the Public Works' Department had been thoroughly effective. There were 20 men at the l-lomer camp, and the depot carried- ample supplies of a,ll requisites.
