TRACK STEWARDS’ ERROR
FINAL LAP OMITTED CROSS-COUNTRY TITLE RACE TO BE RE-RUN (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Owing to several of the runners facing misdirected by a track steward ■during the running of the Auckland cross-country barrier championship on Saturday at Ellerslie, it was decided to re-run the championship next Saturday. The last part of the distance embraced two laps of the Ellerslie racecourse, but' one lap of about 1, miles 'was omitted by seme of the leading irunners.
L. Watters, Auckland, led most of the way and, entering the last mile, was overtaken by A. Browne. Lynndaie. The former realised that there was one lap to go, 'but the officials clocked the runners in as having 'finished with Browne the winner before realising their mistake.
The following team has been selected to represent the Auckland ■province at the New Zealand crosscountry championships at Hastings next Saturday: A. Harding, Technical, captain; A. Browne, • Lynndaie; G. Kofoed, University; C. Wittier, D. (Porter, Papatoctoe; L. E'. Watters, Auckland; emergencies, W. Briggs, Lynndaie; E. Stephenson, University.. Those not available were N. Ambler. 'Calliope, K.'Zrow: Hamilton, R. Crompton. Lynndaie, and L. Clarke, Auckland.
