A Big Spot on the Sun
After tuning been comparatively inactive for some time, the sun has produced a new and very large spot. This is a very symmetrical one and is visible to the naked eye as a needlepoint. It is estimated by the Carter Observatory to measure some 17,000 miles across. It will cross the sun's meridian within the next day or two. A group of spots is just beginning to show on the edge of the sun, and this group will be favourably placed for observation in a few days. It gives indications of being a large and active group.
