ABSTAINED FROM VOTING

THIRTY CONSERVATIVES COMMONS ADJOURNMENT (Reed. August 4, 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 3. More than 30 Conservatives abstained from voting on the motion for the adjournment of the House of Commons. They included Mr. Winston Churchill, Mr. L. C. M. S. Amery and Mr. Anthony Eden. The last named is reported to be ill. It was the outcome of heated interchanges concerning the refusal of the Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, to adopt a suggestion that the House should meet during the recess, as a result of which the Chief Whip will report to Mr. Chamberlain on the attitude of the absentees. ■lt is felt that the bitterly personal character of the debate may have important political repercussions. The Daily Telegraph says that the general impression in the lobbies is that the division figures showed greater feeling for the principle of the amendment than was expected.
