PROMOTION CONDITIONS PUBLIC SERVANTS OBJECT BEPHESENTATIVE AIE ETIN G Strong objection to the proposal of the Public Service Commissioner to institute a system of efficiency tests for public servants as a condition of promotion jn their respective departments was voiced at a meeting held in Gisborne last evening. The meeting comprised representatives of every department of the State which comes under commissioner control, and the attendance was larger than at any previous meeting of public servants held in Gisborne The following motion was carried with complete unanimity:— “That this meeting of the Gisborne branch of the Public Service Association desires to place on record its emphatic protest against the action of the Public Service Commissioner in imposing upon civil servants the efficiency tests which are set out in tlie Public Service official circular of July 17. 1939, and which have caused- h feeling of. discontent amongst members of the' civil service. “That it is the unanimous opinion of this meeting that the tests in their present form are not only unjust, but also unreasonable. “That this meeting pledges itself to whole-heartedly support any constitutional action the executive committee deems it necessary to take for the immediate withdrawal of these efficiency tests.”
