COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS ADDITIONS TO SCHEDULE (Herald Correspondent.) A meeting of delegates from the three Coast 'badminton clubs was held in Te Puia Hotel on Wednesday evening. Those present were Messrs. J. Brown and H. Boyce, Waipiro Bay, A. Knights and F. Smyth, Te Puia, 11. Gardner and S. LvleSmythe, Tokomaru Bay. Mr. Brown was elected to the chair and Messrs. Smyth and Lyle-Smythe were appointed treasurer and secretary respectively. The main reason for the meeting was the forthcoming East Coast ri-pmoionshios. These were played last year for the first time and members were of the opinion that this year the matches should be con-
ducted on the same lines. This year, in addition to the usual doubles and singles championships, it is intended to play a combined doubles handicap match, and it is hoped that this will attract players who would not otherwise take part in the tournament. For this latter match the handicappcr.s elected were Messrs. Brown, Knights and LyleSmythc. There was some discussion as to where the matches would be held, ancl it was decided to play the preliminary rounds in Tc Puia on August 10, the intermediate rounds in Waipirr Bay on August 21, and the finals in Tokomaru Bay on August 24. Each club was left to make its own supper arrangements. I< was decided to purchase ire phics for the tournament and the was left in the hands of the treasurer, Mr. Smyth. In discussing the actual games i' was decided to make all champion ship doubies and the men’s singles 21-up. as far as the finals, which would be three sets of 15. Ladies’ are lo be 15-up, the finals three sets of 11. All matches in the combined
doubles are to be 21-up. It was decided to “set” all games that reached the “deuce” stage, using the usual three and five point rule. The trophies will be presented at a dance in To Puia liall at the beginning of September. It was left to the secretary to write to the New Zealand Badminton Association with a view to forming an East Coast association. The meeting concluded With a vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr. T. W. White for the use of the room.
