Mr. C. W. Firth, associate geologist at the Auckland Institute and Museum for more than 10 years, has resigned to take a position with an oil company.
Mr. R. J. Hodges, -assistant general manager of the 'Mersey Docks -and Harbour Board. Liverpool, expects to reach Wellington on December 28 toy the Dominion Monarch, file will visit Christchurch, Dunedin, Napier and Rotorua before leaving Auckland on January 18.
Mr. D. M. Davin, a New Zealand Rhodes Scholar in 1935 and a former student of Otago University College, has been awarded his B.A. degree with first-class honours. He has been in residence tit Balliol College, Oxford, since 1938, and is being retained on the staff of the college as a lecturer.
Mr. R. D. Thomsan has been appointed manager of the D.1.C., Wellington. in succession to Mr. W. Simm, who recently retired after 28 years of management. Mr. Thomson joined the firm staff in 1927 and was appointed manager of the Wanganui branch in 1931.
tMr. F. R. Meldrum, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Meldrum, Dunedin, has had conferred on him at the graduation ceremony of Bristol University on July 1 the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Meldrum’s research in physical chemistry was carried out under the direction oi Professor W. E. Gainer, F.R.S., during the tenure of the Michael Hiatt Baker Scholarship.
