Waterfront Costs
Sir,—Mr. Roland Graham, has said (hat be had secured figures from a shipping man, who ihadi stated that an eight-man waterside gang in Sydney handled 22 tons an hour. Auckland, seven toms; Suva, 28 tons; Honolulu, 18 tuns; and Vancouver, 28 tons an hour. This wa-s intended to show how the cost of labour was working against New Zealand. These figures may or may not be correct, but unless a comparative statement is also given of the loading facilities of each port, the figures are useless for Tie purpose of comparing actual, labour costs. Would Mr. Graham show how his costs for shearing and slaughtering have risen since 19301939 D.A.C
