MASQUERADE BALL VARIED FANCY COSTUMES (Herald Correspondent.) A very successful masquerade fancy dress ball was 'held' in the Matawai Haill recently. During the evening members of tihe hall -committee thanked all the ladies who helped with ithe supper arrangements and who worked in the supper-room, and also the. local boys and. staff of the Matawai Hotel who worked all the week decorating the hall. The music was supplied by Miss Una Reed, Mr. R. Baird was M.C., and Mrs. C. V. Smith judged the costumes. The prizes- were awarded to Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Robb (Eastern prince -and princess). Among others' present were Mes-diam-es N. and F. Thomas (Mickey and Minnie Mouse), Miss L. Fielder (Sonja Heme), and Mr. S. Sinton (skater), Miss A. Gibson (Persian lady), and -Mr. L. Davidson (Mexican), Miss B. Oswald (Queen- of Hearts), Miss N. Clark (highwayman), Miss R. Smith (Mary Queen of Scots), 'Miss J. M-c Pike (Kitchen Kate), Misis Cotteril-1 (Irish colleen), Miss -N. Clark (sleigh girl), Miss P. Mazengarb (ace of spades), Miss M. Baird (a -bride), Miss- A. Baird (bridesmaid), Miss G. Mazengarb (Snow White), Miss V. Neshausen (London flower seller), Miss- S. Twistleton (old-fashioned' lady), Mrs. E. Per-rot (old English -gentleman), Miss J. Twistleton (drummer girl), Miss E. Lewis (hard- up but happy), Miss iD. Donaldson (sports girl), Miss J. Lewis (sailor girl). 'Mrs. G. Tucker wore -a black frock with pink coatee; Mrs, Mortleman, black taffeta; Mrs. Kidman, floral crepe-de-chi'ne; iMrs. C. V. Smith, Mrs. Baird; Mrs. W. Reed; Miss R. Rogers, blue woollen frock; Miss U. Reed, floral -frock with black and- silver coatee; Miss M. Beaufoy, tartan skirt and jumper; Miss J. Wilkinson, pink taffeta Messrs. E. A. Ew-en (blue and white pierrot), R. Bi-lhami (Spaniard), M. Fisher (nigger minstrel), R. Russell (Matawai basketball player), A. Marshall (gold and -black pierrot), T. Nolan (nigger), N.
