stolen, however, giving the gentle and practical visitor the ‘opportunity to express her pacifislic ideals regarding -personal retaliation. One of the tensest scenes of the film occurs when she pleads with the teacher not to light -for his stolen rights, and he, despondent -and disillusioned, declares that it would be flying the white flag not to do so. “No! Not .’white flags, white banners!” she cries, with the intense conviction of a seer. Sensative, intuitional performances by the entire associate cast help to make “White Banners’’ one of the most, inspiring films of the year.
