NEW POLITICAL PARTY
SELECTION OF NAME OEJECTIONS OUTLINEIX OO'VERNMENT CRITICISED (Per Press Association.) HASTINGS, this day. The name of the newly-organised political party is -the Socialist Educational and Political Party and the chief objective is the formation of a democratic movement 'to educate the people socially, politically and economically and to secure for the people the full results of their labour by constitutional Parliamentary methods, slated the chief organiser, Mr. E. -H. Dailey, after the first official meeting at Hastings on Saturday.
There Was a good attendance of members, continued Mr. Dailey, who expressed himself as satisfied with the progress being made by the organisation in Hawke’s Bay.
Am’ong the matters discussed at the meeting was the visit abroad by the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash. The report states that Mr. Nash's visit to the moneylenders abroad is considered contrary to the mandate, as given by the electors at the last general election. Objection was made to the secret methods employed by the Government. It was considered that they should take the people into their confidence and that there should be nothing to hide.
The following resolution was passed: “This meeting strongly protests against the taxation being imposed on those who cannot afford to pay. It is also of the opinion that taxation should be shouldered by industry and those best able to p'ay.”
A further resolution stated that it be a recommendation from the meeting that the Government, Which apparently wishes to economise, should discontinue visits o'f Ministers abroad. It stated that men were being put off Government 'works While these expenses were going on. The men should be retained and the expenses of-visits curtailed.
The cost of clothing and other necessities in New Zealand, as compared with Britain, the policy of the Government in sending Maori married workers away from their homes, and the 'weakness of international finance and other matters -were discussed.
