WOMEN “TERRITORIALS”
TRAINEES IN CAMP LONDON, June 9. Women “Territorials” began during ‘die week-end their first serious training under wartime conditions. From now on they are going into camps and barracks to do the jobs which they would have to do in war. The 40th Company of the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service spent their first full day in “camp” yesterday. They are stationed in the barracks of the Royal Scots at Glencorse, Midlothian.
Conversations with the soldiers of the regiment are barred in barracks. The WATS—thers are 44 of them, ranging in age from 18 to forty oddhave to use the same gate as the troops, but they pass each other without a word. A special “wet canteen” has been put at the disposal of the women. They can buy beer and play darts. They are housed in two huts known as the “prison block,” Their day begins at 6.30 a.m. and they work in the cookhouse, stores, and orderly room until 2.45 p.m. doing the same work as they would in wartime. In the afternoon the WATS ve games, and ait 4.30 are free until 10 o’clock.
