WAIROA’S DUMP
DISPOSAL OF RUBBISH MEDICAL OFFICER’S VIEWS “OVER RUN WITH RATS” I | (Spuciu! to tliHerald.) WAIROA. this day. ] “Over-run with rats so big that any self-respecting cat would have graci!on sly retired,” was the description given by Dr. L. S. Davis, medical officer of health. Gisborne, of what !he saw at the old Wairoa rubbish j dump, in a letter to the Wairoa j Borough Council at its monthly meeting. Dr. Davis’ letter was in reply to I one which was sent to him by the ! council in which exception was taken to his remarks in a previous letter to the council relative to the disposal of rubbish here. The reference was to the old dump which has now been abandoned and not <o the new one which has been opened by the council. It was stated by Dr. Davis that, judging by the report of the previous meeting of the council when exception was taken to his remarks, some members of the council evidently misunderstood his remarks. He added that a few days after reading the report he paid a visit to the dump, which, in his opinion, constituted a nuisance. Tnp Mover. Mr. H. L. Harlcer, said that Dr. Davis was referring to the old clump. Referring to the colleeon of rubbish generally, the Mayor '■toted that only five applications had been received from householders who desTod to take advantage of a regular rubbish collection at a small cost. 4 regular collection could not be instituted on that. Cr. L. E. Galbraith described the new dump as a good job. and he felt sure h would meet the requirements. Several deto ; ls for bringing about further improvements were discussed and it was decided that the health committee should .go further into the question with the health inspector.
