POSTPONED FOR WEEK
RANFURLY SHIELD GAME OTAGO’S CHALLENGE (For Prej> Association.) I INVERCARGILL, this day. A decision was made by the South- j land Rugby Union late on Friday afternoon to postpone the Ranfurly Shield match to have been played between Otago and Southland on Saturday. ■lt was reported to the committee by the Railwa.y Department that because of the main line being flooded at McNab no trains would be able to get through to Invercargill. The match will be played at Invercargill next Saturday. Southland and Otago were to have played a return match at Dunedin next Saturday. That fixture will now be played at the end of September, after the Southland and Otago teams return from the northern tours. Southland’s first challenge failed at Dunedin last year, Otago then retaining the trophy' 7- —(j. Six weeks later, however the Southlanders returned to Carisbrook and lifted the Shield, 10 —5.
