UMPIRE INJURED

Spectators at Central Park, Waipukurau on Saturday, had the unique experience of seeing a cross-bar and goal-posts collapse and a Rugby umpire injured. Play in the match Waipukurau v. Old Boys had just been resumed in the second half, when C. Wilson took a penalty kick at goal. The ball flew straight at the uprights and then bounced into the field off the cross-bar, which became unfastened. One of the umpires was struck on the wrist when the crossbar fell, and although the incident proved painful for the umpire, it provided a source of amusement among the spectators for some minutes. The cross-bar was later, replaced by the players, but the umpire was obliged to retire temporarily, nursing his injured wrist.
