HOUKAMAU CUP
WAIAPU-MATAKAOA DRAW FAST GAME ENDS 9—ALL (Special to the Herald.) TIKITIKI, this day. Despite the cold and showery weather, the -largest , crowd to be present at a- football match in Tiki...ki tnis -season, attended on Saturday .icernoon to see t.te game between Matakaoa and Waiapu sub-unions for che Heni Houkamau Cup. The Matakaoa- -team is- one of the strongest .sides on the Coast this season and, having had two previous easy victories over Waiapu, it had been expected- that they would have no difficulty in lifting -the cup. Contrary to expectations, the game, which was fast, open and thrilling, with the issue in doubt until the final whis-tle, ended in a draw, 9 points each. The star of the day was T. Taingahue, ithe Waiapu half, whose work behind tire scr-um and brilliant defensive play continually .got his- side out of -trouble. M. Hyland also played a very -good' game. The best of the Waiapu forwards were D. Tuhoro and W. Anderson. The best of tire Matakaoa backs were H. liovell and M. Sterling, while M. Jensen was outstanding in the forwards. The scorers for Waiapu were M. Hyland’, two tries, and D. Tuhoro, and for -Matakaoa, H. Hovell and P. Parekura, While M. Sterling kicked a penalty goal. IM-r. 'George Mackey was the referee.
