PALMERSTON N. WEDDING

PRESLAND—CHRISTMAS SLIPPER SATIN GOWN GISBORNE BRIDEGROOM A pretty wedding took place at All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, on June 17, when Gweneth Joan, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Christmas, was married to Allan Ivan, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Presland, of Gisborne. The bride, who was escorted by her father', looked charming in her gown of ivory slipper satin, cut with high neck and pointed bodice, and long leg-of-mutton sleeves: her skirt was gathered at the side and fell in folds to the feet, ending in an oval train at the back. Her long veil was pleated onto a sequin halo, with a spray of orange blossom at the back. She carried a shower bonquet of roses, carnations and lily of the valley, and wore a double string of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. Two bridesmaids attended the bride, both wearing quaint frocks of blue taffeta; the full skirts were shirred ai the waist and trimmed with bands of shirred silk velvet. Their blue taffeta doll’s hats were trimmed with blue silk velvet and cyclamen posies, and fastened to the head with cyclamen velvet ribbon. They wore silver snoes and carried posies in cyclamen shades. The bridesmaids were Miss Bernice Hardy and Miss Marie McCollum, cousin of the bride. They each received a crystal powder bowl from the bridegroom. Mr. William Adams, of Palmerston North, was best man, and Mr. Terence McAlister, Gisborne, was groomsman. Mr. James Symond was usher at the church.

A reception was afterwards held at the P.D.C. tearooms, where 50 guests were received by Mrs. Christmas, who wore a black frock and fur plush box coat, also a black bowler hat with ostrich feather, and carried a posy in autumn shades. She was assisted by Mrs. Presland, who wore an ox-blood postume with black fur stole and peach-bloom hat to match; and her posy was in mauve shades. Mr. H. Christmas carried out the duties of toastmaster. <

When the bride and bridegroom later left for Auckland on their honeymoon, Mrs. Presland was wearing a black tailored frock, with hat and shoes to match, and a peshaniki fur hip-length cape.
