WEATHER MODERATES
PORT BOWEN’S POSITION HULL ESCAPES DAMAGE (Per Proas Association.) WANGANUI, this day. The westerly gale which blew yesterday and' 'last night dropped this morning and the sea is moderating. The position of the Port Bowen is unaltered, the vessel .having weathered the storm without damage to the hull. Steam was up in the alt boilers yesterday and the refrigerators are working. Practically all the salvage gear .necessary is now at hand. Should the power on the steamer fail, portable boilers will be set up to keep the refrigerators going and preserve the valuable cargo of meat apd butter. The latter alone is valued at about £70,000.
