LEADER OF LABOUR GROUP TEXAS INDIGNATION i (Rec'd. July 29, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 27. “Mr. Garner is a labour-baiting, poker-playing, -whisky-drinking old man.” With this statement, uttered at the Congressional hearing, where John L. Lewi's charged t‘h e Vice-President of the United States with opposing labour, the leader of the Committee for Industrial Organisation launched a -seriocomic political incident.

Mr. Garner, when asked to comment, only chuckled. The Texas delegation to Congress, however, immediately -held a caucus and issued a pronouncement expressing “deep resentment and indignation over this unwarranted and unjustified attack on Mr. Garner’s private and public life.”
