LOCAL BODY MEMBERS
INSURANCE COVER INTERPRETATION SOUGHT A clear interpretation of the terms of the insurance covej- on local body members travelling to and from meetings is to be sought by the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board, as a result of a decision at yesterday’s meeting. The managing-secretary, Mr. R. P. Baigent, stated that he had been informed by the local agent of the company through which the board was insuring its members in respect of members travelling to and from meetings that if a member transacted any other business apart from local body affairs while he was in town -the insurance cover would not apply.
Mr. M. T. TrafTord: Would he be able to take a. meal? (Laughter.) The chairman, Mr. F. R. Bill, said his -interpretation of the conditions was that a member would not be covered while he was attending to his own private business in town, but when he -travelled to town for the express purpose of attending a meeting of his local body he would be covered on the journey in and out.
Other members held that the interpretation provided by the local agent, ( would hardly be reasonable, and it would be difficult to know where tt> draw the line between private and local -body affairs. The board agreed to secure -a definite ruling on the point.
